My Story
As an amputee myself, I understand the physical, emotional, and psychological challenges that come with limb loss. After twenty years of debilitating pressure ulcers and antibiotic-resistant infections, amputation was the last choice for me. Although I was depressed, I refused to let my disability define me.
I started researching and began to see that there was a complete lack of psychologists specializing in recovery from amputations. I searched for any therapist who knew the first-hand experience of limb loss.
When that search came up empty, I started writing about the psychological problems amputees face and put them on a website for everyone to read.
Since my surgery and recovery, I have pursued my dream of using the skills I learned as a clinical psychologist and put to use in recovering from my own amputation to help others via Amputee Lifecoach for over a decade.
I’ve helped 1000s patients recover over the last 10 years.

Testimonials
I would highly recommend Dr. Kappler. He was understanding and helped me quickly and compassionately. He was there for me in every step of the way. Whenever I needed someone to talk to I could reach him. His being a fellow amputee made him much more understanding of what I was going through. He was non-judgmental and a good listener. I always know I have someone to talk to.
Susan M.
Administrative Assistant
Even if you have never been to a therapist before you will find that Dr. Kappler is easy to talk to and is very non-judgemental. Once I found out that he had gone through an amputation I knew he understood what I was going through. He wasn’t trying to fix me. He guided me through the decisions I had to make. Being able to call him or text and get a quick reply helped immensely.
